How are new technologies transforming the ways in which art is created, collected, traded, and valued? Dmitri Cherniak, a leading artist in the field of generative art, and digital art collector Benjamin Gross join curator Tal Lanir for a conversation about the evolving field of digital art.

Focusing on Cherniak’s work Ringers in Motion, the discussion will explore the role of code, algorithms, chance, and movement in his practice, and consider how generative art challenges traditional notions of the artwork as a singular, finished object.

The conversation will also address what it means to collect art in a digital environment. Cherniak and Gross will discuss the role of blockchain technology in establishing ownership and provenance, as well as the ways in which digital artworks are acquired, traded, displayed, and preserved. Bringing together the perspectives of an artist, a collector, and a curator, the discussion will examine how digital technologies are reshaping the art world and the relationship between art and the market—and what these changes might mean for the future of collecting and the place of digital art in museums and art history.
