Drora Dominey: Provisions for a long journey

This comprehensive exhibition of works by sculptor Drora Dominey (b. 1950, Kibbutz Merhavia) spans four decades of artistic practice, from the 1980s to the present. With her unique approach to sculpture, Dominey explores the differences between a table, a chair, a scaffold, a swing, a cupboard, a mashrabiya, and an animal skeleton, while exposing their common patterns. The resulting inanimate world is unique in the way it orchestrates the tensions between distance and proximity, both inside and outside, indoors and outdoors. The emergence of Dominey's sculpture in Israeli art prompted a critical discussion of the masculine ethos of local sculpture, suggesting the feminine voice's ability to change it.
