Mary Poppins (1964) | Directed by Robert Stevenson
134 min., Hebrew dubbing
A musical cinematic classic about a magical nanny.
Mary Poppins is no ordinary nanny: she has magical powers, songs that she likes to sing, and special lyrics that she likes to use. She takes Jane and Michael Banks—the children in her care—on exciting adventures and introduces them to extraordinary characters. Among other things, they visit a magical horse race, drink tea with a Uncle Arthur whose laughter makes everyone float in the air, and jump into chalk paintings. Their special adventures offer pure viewing pleasure for young and adult viewers alike.
Julie Andrews, as Mary Poppins, won an Oscar for her role in this film, and so did the composers, Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman. Also noteworthy are the wonderful Dick Van Dyke and Jane Darwell—in her final film role, as the Bird Woman.
