Performance Event at the Exhibition and yet: Looking at Contemporary Art 1985–2025
For one evening only, artist Yan Bolotov’s audiovisual installation will host a live music performance. Four musicians will each respond in their own way to the shifting lights, the mystical imagery, and the moments when the illusion shatters
Featuring: Yan Bolotov, LazerTisser, Daniel Meir, Nico Tin
The installation, Shipment No. 273196121229 (Sometimes I enjoy waiting for the package to arrive more than the package itself), simulates a waiting room. A single bench faces a triptych of milky windows through which one can witness a cyclical simulation of sunset and sunrise, moving through twilight and darkness. Using artificial lighting, sound, and architecture, Bolotov creates a sensitive and intelligent encounter between technology and spirituality. At moments during the sequence of light and sound, Bolotov subversively chooses to break the illusion and mysticism of the imagery, exposing the behind-the-scenes of the work and creating flashes of disillusionment and confusion.
The event is a durational performance that will take place within the confined space of the installation. Visitors may enter and exit the space freely throughout the performance. The music will spill into other areas of the gallery and influence the experience of viewing the artworks.
Yan Bolotov (b. 1988) is a graduate of the MFA program at Bezalel and the first recipient of the Ribakind–Ben Tzur Prize for 2024, in collaboration with the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.
