Mother of Foreign–A Multilingual Audio Journey / A Site-Specific Installation by Neta Weiner (in Hebrew)
A unique installation throughout the museum – a performative tour led by Neta Weiner
Mother of Foreign is a linguistic-based identity journey that unfolds within the museum’s public spaces. The performance draws a parallel between the two parts of the city of Tel Aviv–Jaffa: between Tel Aviv (including in it the Tel Aviv Museum of Art) and Jaffa. It operates on two simultaneous planes: an upward physical movement between the museum’s floors, and a metaphorical descent into the archaeological layers of Jaffa. Through the lyrics of original songs, 5,000 years of the city’s history gradually come to light, revealing it in its full glory – a cosmopolitan capital, a unique cultural and economic engine, and a potential motherland for all who seek one.
The performance was created for the spaces of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art and is site-specific.
The tour will take place on foot and will include five stations. At each point, an original hip-hop piece will be performed, connecting the museum space to a specific moment in the history and geography of Jaffa. The songs will be performed in Hebrew, Yiddish, Arabic, and English – the four languages that have shaped Weiner’s work over the past decade.
