Guided tour at the exhibition Bella Brisel: Waters from Waters (in Hebrew)
The life, work, and death of artist Bella Brisel (1929-1982) are shrouded in obscurity. In her studio on the Spanish island of Formentera, she created metaphysical paintings steeped in intense emotional richness.
Her style was markedly different from that of her contemporaries in Israel, and although she exhibited her work there occasionally, she remained relatively unknown. This exhibition marks the first comprehensive display of Brisel’s art, which modern eyes have discovered as relevant. The exhibition culminates with the section titled “Birthing a Mother,” featuring contemporary artworks in the spirit of Bella Brisel by Omer Halperin, Hanita Ilan, Merav Kamel, Eti Levi, Tomer Rosenthal, Ester Schneider, and Shahar Yahalom.
